Job Description:

The purpose of a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health is to support primary care providers with clinical documentation to help ensure accurate and specific patient care documentation. Responsibilities include joining providers in exam rooms, assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes, improving clinical workflows, and supporting both preventative and chronic condition care. This role is ideal for candidates pursuing careers in health informatics, public health, healthcare administration, or medical coding.

Job Responsibility:

Documenting patient encounters, including patient visits and structured notes
Assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes
Preparing After Visit Summaries
Supporting clinical documentation improvement by reviewing medical records and leveraging population health tools
Preparing for and supporting daily huddles and clinical documentation reviews
Consulting with provider on clinical documentation opportunities
Placing orders and referrals
Addressing tasks
Supporting the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation.

Requirements:

Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications, either from a pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience
Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering
Prior scribe or transcription experience
Advanced listening and communication skills
Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve
Ability to adapt to new workflows and to quickly learn new concepts and skills
Ability to type 70+ words per minute
Ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care, including adapting to the provider's working style
Excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person in our clinics
Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role
Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours
Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA
US work authorization.

Nice to have:

Prior scribe or transcription experience
Fluency in languages spoken by people in the communities served.
