Job Description:

The Medical Scribe role supports primary care providers with clinical documentation to ensure a focus on quality patient care. Responsibilities include documenting patient encounters, assigning codes, preparing summaries, consulting with care teams, reviewing medical records, and other administrative tasks. It provides on-the-job training for individuals pursuing careers in healthcare and offers competitive benefits.

Job Responsibility:

Documenting patient encounters
joining the provider in the exam room to observe patient visits
documenting patient encounters in structured notes
assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes
preparing after visit summaries
consulting with provider to ensure accurate documentation
requesting and reviewing medical records
leveraging population health tools to support clinical documentation improvement
preparing and supporting daily huddles and clinical documentation reviews
placing orders and referrals
addressing tasks
supporting the care team with clinical documentation-related responsibilities.

Requirements:

Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
prior clinical experience
prior scribe or transcription experience
advanced listening and communication skills
strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities served
ability to adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts and skills
ability to type 70+ words per minute
ability and willingness to take direction and be a team member providing patient care
ability to be a self-starter within role scope
excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person in clinics
ability to commit to at least 1 year in role
ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours
compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies
US work authorization.

Nice to have:

Prior scribe or transcription experience
typing speed of 70+ words per minute
fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken in the communities served.
