As a Principal Engineer at Baxter in the Materials Science Team, this role involves designing and leading materials science-related aspects of innovation, exploratory work, new product development, testing, and qualification for medical devices and drug products.
Job Responsibility:
Applies in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in polymer science, chemistry, and engineering to optimize material (thermoplastics and thermosets) properties
schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project
communicates key information and recommendations to influence technical decisions and strategies
defines material requirements and develops specifications
devises new and innovative approaches to complex problems
provides technical mentoring to entry level engineers and scientists.
Requirements:
Minimum 8 years’ experience with B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent or 6+ years with a Masters
expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: polymer & drug compatibility, polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer rheology, polymer adhesion, polymer/rubber formulation, polymer coating, polymer processing, or polymer characterization
experience utilizing material characterization tools (i.e. thermal, mechanical, microscopy, optical, rheological, various chemistry analytical such as HPLC, GCMS, etc.)
proven technical understanding of polymer science and engineering principles
preferred 3+ years of experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industry
ability to solve material-related problems with minimal assistance and provide technical knowledge for materials projects with substantial complexity and scope
demonstrated ability to decompose complex problems into task lists
strong communication skills and ability to perform within a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred 3+ years of experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industry.
