Job Description:

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Accounting Manager / Controller to lead financial operations for our [non-profit organization / small business]. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and compliance, ensuring the organization’s financial health.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow to support strategic decision-making
  • Ensure accurate tracking of grants, donations, and restricted funds (for non-profits)
  • Generate custom financial reports in QuickBooks for management and board meetings
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal financial policies
  • Prepare and oversee audit processes (internal and external audits)
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard financial assets
  • Oversee tax filings (990s for non-profits, payroll taxes, sales tax, and business filings)
  • Maintain and optimize QuickBooks Online/Desktop for accurate and efficient financial reporting
  • Implement best practices for financial processes and improve reporting efficiency
  • Ensure accurate data entry and reconciliation within QuickBooks and payroll systems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
  • 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in a non-profit or small business
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting (for non-profits), and financial compliance
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or Desktop required
  • Experience in budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with payroll processing, including union payroll
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and communicate financial insights effectively

Nice to have:

  • Experience with non-profit accounting, including grant tracking and donor reporting
  • Familiarity with financial forecasting tools and automation to streamline processes
