Job Description:

Our client, a well-known global not-for-profit, is recruiting for an experienced Accounting Manager to join their team based in Washington, DC. In this role as Accounting Manager, you will oversee all accounting functions, supervise, train and mentor your staff, and support the executive team. You will also be responsible for the timely preparation of GAAP-based financial reporting.

Job Responsibility:

  • oversee all accounting functions including ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue and asset accounting, and financial analysis and reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • prepare and review bank reconciliations and journal entries and analyze general ledger accounts
  • manage payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely submission
  • oversee and manage annual audits and tax preparations with a focus on revenue recognition and functional expenses
  • monitor revenue and expenses
  • coordinate the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data
  • and prepare reports
  • contribute to improving internal accounting processes, prepare and complete action plans, identify trends, determine system improvements, and implement changes
  • train and mentor the finance and accounting staff and educate non-finance staff on policies and procedures to ensure compliance
  • help to guide other departments by interpreting accounting policy and applying recommendations to operational issues
  • monitor emerging technology to help determine ways to automate the accounting process

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of finance and accounting experience including from the non-profit sector
  • proven management and supervisory skills – preferably with a team of 2-3 or more (managing team of three)
  • CPA is highly preferred
  • MBA or graduate degree is also a major plus
  • must have a comprehensive understanding of US GAAP
  • proficiency in conducting month end close activities is required
  • prior experience in public accounting (audit) is a plus
  • proficiency in software such as Intacct or NetSuite as well as the Microsoft Office Suite
  • understanding of the non-profit industry and its accounting standards
