Job Description:

This role is for an Advanced Development Senior Research Engineer at Hewlett Packard Labs, focusing on designing and developing innovative architectures for AI, HPC, and storage systems, emphasizing performance at scale and sustainability.

Job Responsibility:

  • Participates as a member of a research team and lead sub-teams
  • Designs, implements, and assesses computer architectures, programming APIs, and runtime systems
  • Simulates and models future architectures and evaluates their performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Measures and manages sustainability and power of the systems
  • Creates research plans and collaborates with internal and external partners
  • Communicates results and conclusions to team members
  • Prepares literature and presentations for peer review and publication
  • Creates patent applications and supporting documentation
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into research and development organizations
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff.

Requirements:

  • Research track record in computer architecture, storage, and data management
  • PhD in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proven capability to define and execute a research agenda
  • Proven capability to effectively work in a team-based environment
  • Broad familiarity with processors, memory system, and storage hardware architecture
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools and performance evaluation
  • High level of coding and debugging skills in C++ or Java, as well as scripting languages such as Python or Perl
  • Background in performance analysis and tuning
  • Familiarity with concurrency and software design for large-scale multiprocessor NUMA systems is a plus
  • Experience with complex memory models is a plus
  • Open-source community experience is a plus
  • Strong software architectural understanding for system performance and fault tolerance
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
