Job Description:

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the financial operations of the company, with a focus on financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and process improvements. This role is ideal for a Senior Auditor or Senior Accountant with experience in public accounting or industry accounting who is ready for a leadership position in the home building sector.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and management reports
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Oversee job cost accounting and project profitability analysis, ensuring proper cost allocations
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business decisions
  • Support cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and financial planning
  • Partner with external auditors, preparing documentation for financial audits and tax filings
  • Work cross-functionally with project managers, sales, and operations to provide financial insights
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting functions
  • Assist in ERP system enhancements and implementation projects related to accounting and finance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or working towards CPA preferred)
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting (audit) or industry accounting with construction or real estate experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, growing environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Nice to have:

Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting is a plus
