Job Description:

We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Cable Technician based in Norfolk, Virginia. As a Cable Technician, you will be involved in a variety of tasks, ranging from fiber optic cable preparation and splicing to operating fiber equipment and creating as-builts. This role is within the industry and requires the use of skills such as Fiber Optics, CAT5, and CAT6.

Job Responsibility:

Preparing and splicing fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon
Conducting fiber optic testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance
Installing rack mounts and fiber optic enclosures as per customer designs
Terminating Fiber for efficient cable management
Conducting Outside Plant (OSP) coax coring and splicing
Balancing Amps to ensure network stability
Certifying Nodes for network reliability
Undertaking Aerial Line Work for cable installation and maintenance
Operating a bucket truck while adhering to all safety and traffic regulations
Utilizing different types of fiber equipment including fusion splicer, fiber light identifier, light source power meter, and OTDR
Interpreting prints and fiber maps for accurate installation and troubleshooting
Reading and working from splice logs (splice matrices) for efficient task execution
Auditing fiber optic systems to ensure quality control
Creating as-builts for record-keeping and future reference

Requirements:

Demonstrated proficiency in Fiber Optics
Proven experience with CAT5 cabling
Solid understanding and hands-on experience with CAT6 cabling
Ability to troubleshoot and maintain cable systems
Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations in cable installation
Ability to read and understand technical diagrams and manuals
Excellent physical stamina to carry out labor-intensive tasks
Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for customer interactions
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Willingness to work in various weather conditions and at heights if required
Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, and during non-business hours as necessary
