Job Description:

The Clinical Informatics Specialist (Medical Scribe) supports primary care providers with clinical documentation in real-time during patient encounters. Responsibilities include observing visits in-person, documenting structured notes, assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, and assisting with administrative tasks. The role involves on-the-job training in population health, chronic preventative care, value-based medicine, and team-based workflows. Ideal for candidates seeking pre-med experience or careers in health informatics, public health, coding, or healthcare administration.

Job Responsibility:

  • Documenting patient encounters including joining the provider in the exam room, documenting structured notes, assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes, and preparing After Visit Summaries
  • consulting with the provider to ensure accurate documentation
  • requesting and reviewing medical records
  • leveraging population health tools for documentation improvement
  • preparing for and supporting Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews
  • placing orders and referrals
  • addressing tasks and additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications, either from a pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience
  • prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering
  • prior scribe or transcription experience
  • advanced listening and communication skills
  • strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
  • fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve, where indicated
  • ability to adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts and skills
  • ability to type 70+ words per minute
  • ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care, including adapting to the provider's working style
  • excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person in clinics
  • ability to commit to at least 1 year in role, 2+ is ideal
  • ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours with predictable hours and break times
  • compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA
  • US work authorization

Nice to have:

  • Prior scribe or transcription experience
  • fluency in additional languages such as Spanish, Polish, or Russian
  • ability to type 70+ words per minute
  • prior experience shadowing or volunteering in clinical environments
