Job Description:

We are offering a contract-to-hire employment opportunity for a Payroll Specialist in the construction industry, located in Calumet Park, Illinois. The role involves a professional and experienced Construction Payroll Specialist to work in a fast-paced and growing organization, with opportunities for cross-functional training and professional growth.

Job Responsibility:

Process weekly payroll for both union and non-union employees
ensure timely payment of all weekly payroll taxes
handle all wage garnishments, child support, and tax levies
maintain records for vacation, sick and personal time
administer company benefits including 401(k) and health insurance
oversee general ledger maintenance, internal auditing, and job costing transactions
prepare for monthly close by completing all accruals and journal entries
conduct activities related to insurance audits for general liability and workers compensation
complete all activities related to union audits
process monthly new hire reports
process end-of-year tax reports including W-2/W-3 and 1099/1096
submit project payroll compliance reports and apprentice certificates
process all worker’s compensation and union audits.

Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Payroll Specialist in the construction/contractor industry
proven experience with Certified Payroll is required
experience in union payroll, union setup in accounting software, and monthly reporting and payments
knowledge of laws and regulations of payroll practices and tax and government compliance
proficient in Microsoft Office – specifically Excel and Word
experience in construction accounting software such as Foundation, Computer Ease, Timberline, or similar programs.
