Job Responsibility:
Prepare, review, and file Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions, schedules, and statements
Assist attorneys in reviewing client financial documents to ensure accuracy and completeness
Draft correspondence, pleadings, and motions related to bankruptcy proceedings
Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information, explain the bankruptcy process, and provide case updates
Monitor case progress and deadlines, ensuring compliance with federal and local bankruptcy court rules
File documents electronically through CM/ECF (Case Management/Electronic Case Files)
Coordinate creditor meetings and hearings with attorneys, trustees, and clients
Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in bankruptcy law
Liaise with creditors, court clerks, and trustees regarding case matters and inquiries
Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documentation is up to date and properly stored
Requirements:
Minimum 2-3 years of consumer bankruptcy experience preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred
paralegal certification a plus
Proficiency in Best Case Bankruptcy Software, CM/ECF filing system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and case management software
Familiarity with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy laws, procedures, and court filing requirements
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with attorneys, clients, and court personnel
Ability to handle multiple cases, meet strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy in document preparation and review
Nice to have:
Experience working in a bankruptcy law firm or legal department
Knowledge of local bankruptcy court procedures and trustee requirements
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
