We are seeking an experienced Controller for a client in the distribution industry, headquartered in Moore, South Carolina (29369). The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in technical accounting and financial reporting, coupled with significant expertise in overseeing critical accounting processes within a distribution environment. The role requires managing complex financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, leading month-end close processes, and analyzing financial performance to drive strategic decisions. This position will also oversee the management of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) operations.
Job Responsibility:
Ensure the timely preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP or IFRS, as applicable, while maintaining adherence to distribution-specific regulatory and tax requirements
Manage and resolve complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, inventory costing, and lease accounting, specific to the distribution industry
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring the accurate preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis within tight deadlines
Supervise the AP and AR functions, ensuring timely payments, detailed aging reviews, dispute resolutions, and optimized cash flow management
Perform ongoing financial analysis, including profitability, expense trends, and cost controls, to support operational efficiencies and strategic growth initiatives
Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals (AP, AR, and others), fostering a transparent and collaborative work environment focused on process improvement
Conduct regular audits of financial processes to guarantee adherence to internal controls and ensure compliance with SOX, if applicable
Coordinate with independent auditors during annual reviews
Leverage robust knowledge of ERP systems and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle) to streamline processes and enhance reporting capabilities
Lead the annual budget process, develop rolling forecasts, and maintain alignment between financial planning and operational objectives
Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation processes, ensuring accurate reporting and alignment with distribution-specific accounting measures
Supervise and process customer credit applications, monitor credit risk, and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure favorable terms
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA designation preferred)
7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, ideally within the distribution or logistics industry
In-depth knowledge of technical accounting standards, including GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations relevant to the distribution sector
Proficiency in ERP systems and financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
Demonstrated success in managing full-cycle accounting operations and driving process improvements
Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders
