Job Description:

In this role, you will oversee financial operations, manage accounting functions, prepare financial reports, and ensure compliance. You will also provide leadership to a small team, ensuring fiscal integrity and alignment with organizational goals.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP and non-profit accounting standards
  • Develop and oversee the organization's annual budget, monitoring cash flow and financial projections to ensure fiscal stability
  • Maintain an organized financial system by managing QuickBooks Online
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership for strategic decision-making
  • Oversee grant accounting, ensuring proper allocation, reporting, and compliance with funder requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including audits and tax filings
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a small team of accounting/finance employees
  • Collaborate with program directors and leadership to align financial planning with organizational goals
  • Provide training and guidance on financial best practices to staff as needed

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in the non-profit sector as a Controller or a similar role
  • Proficiency in managing month-end close procedures
  • Demonstrable skills in financial statement preparation
  • Familiarity with grant accounting within the non-profit context
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage budgeting processes
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including GAAP
  • Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and databases
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable
  • Experience with a non-profit organization is preferred
