The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) will manage and oversee the HIM department’s day-to-day operations and strategic direction. This includes ensuring compliance with health information regulations, serving as Privacy Officer, supporting medical billing functions, and submitting timely, accurate reports to HCAI.
Job Responsibility:
HCAI Reporting: Gather data internally across departments, identifying and resolving missing information. Prepare and submit accurate and compliant reports to Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) in a timely manner
Team Support and Guidance: Act as a resource when HIM team members encounter challenges with obtaining responses from healthcare providers. Provide leadership and direction to ensure seamless collaboration between internal departments and clinics
Privacy Officer Responsibilities: Monitor, investigate, and report on breaches while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and privacy laws. Develop and implement privacy policies and procedures to safeguard patient information
Department Leadership: Oversee a diverse HIM team that includes 8 acute care specialists, 1 skilled nursing specialist, and 5 professionals supporting clinics, including clinics specializing in oncology and provider-based care. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment that aligns with organizational goals. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices across all HIM functions
Medical Billing Support: Partner with the billing team to ensure timely and accurate submission of health records necessary for billing processes. Monitor and resolve discrepancies between documentation and billing requirements
Requirements:
RHIT Certification (Registered Health Information Technician) required
Extensive knowledge of CVPH and HIMA standards and requirements
Proven experience in health information management leadership roles
Strong understanding of HIPAA and healthcare privacy regulations
Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to manage a multi-site team across acute care, skilled nursing, oncology specialty clinics, and provider clinics
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (preferred)
