Job Description:

The Bradford School is seeking a Director of Learning - English to lead a thriving English department from September 2025. The school is committed to academic excellence, strong values, student success, and nurturing talent while promoting a culture of high expectations, respect, and integrity. Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement an ambitious English curriculum that inspires students of all abilities
  • Lead the English department to deliver consistently high-quality teaching and learning
  • Establish clear strategies to improve student outcomes in English at KS3 and KS4
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching practices to ensure excellent standards
  • Support and mentor staff within the English faculty to improve their professional practice
  • Ensure the consistent delivery of engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and creativity
  • Provide clear and supportive feedback to staff to foster development
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of student data to inform teaching strategies
  • Organise and oversee external assessments and examinations in English
  • Foster strong relationships with external agencies and partners to enhance learning opportunities

Requirements:

  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Demonstrate substantial leadership experience within a secondary school setting
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)

  • Knowledge of the latest developments in English teaching and learning
  • Confidence in using educational technology to enhance learning
  • Experience delivering whole-school literacy initiatives
  • The ability to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
  • Show commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
  • Be an outstanding practitioner with a deep understanding of English curriculum
