Job Description:

The Bradford School is seeking a Director of Learning - English to lead a thriving English department from September 2025. The school is committed to academic excellence, strong values, student success, and nurturing talent while promoting a culture of high expectations, respect, and integrity. The school was judged 'outstanding' in all areas.

Job Responsibility:

Develop and implement an ambitious English curriculum that inspires students of all abilities
Lead the English department to deliver consistently high-quality teaching and learning
Establish clear strategies to improve student outcomes in English at KS3 and KS4
Monitor and evaluate teaching practices to ensure excellent standards
Support and mentor staff within the English faculty to improve their professional practice
Ensure the consistent delivery of engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and creativity
Provide clear and supportive feedback to staff to foster development
Ensure accurate record-keeping of student data to inform teaching strategies
Organise and oversee external assessments and examinations in English
Foster strong relationships with external agencies and partners to enhance learning opportunities

Requirements:

Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification
Demonstrate substantial leadership experience within a secondary school setting
Eligibility to work in the UK
An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)

Nice to have:

Knowledge of the latest developments in English teaching and learning
Confidence in using educational technology to enhance learning
Experience delivering whole-school literacy initiatives
The ability to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
Show commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
Be an outstanding practitioner with a deep understanding of English curriculum
