The Divisional Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a division/region ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strategic financial planning. This role requires extensive experience with work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, percent completion revenue recognition, and multi-entity financial management. The ideal candidate will provide financial leadership, optimize financial processes, and support business objectives through effective financial analysis and reporting.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, accounting, and controls for the division, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies
Manage WIP accounting, including job costing, progress billing, and tracking project financial performance
Implement and maintain percent completion revenue recognition methodologies to ensure accurate financial reporting
Handle multi-entity accounting, consolidations, and intercompany transactions
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with variance analysis
Collaborate with operations and project managers to improve financial performance and forecasting accuracy
Lead budgeting and forecasting processes for the division
Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial health metrics
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and internal controls
Drive process improvements and system enhancements to increase financial efficiency
Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred)
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or controller role
Strong expertise in WIP accounting, percent completion revenue recognition, and multi-entity accounting
Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
Knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and financial reporting standards
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
Nice to have:
Experience in construction, manufacturing, or professional services industries
Hands-on experience with job costing and project-based financial management
Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, NetSuite, or SAP
