Job Description:

The role involves providing legal advice to individuals and families on a range of estate planning and tax strategies, drafting legal documents, and representing various parties in probate or trust matters in court.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide legal advice on estate planning and tax strategies
  • Draft legal documents such as trusts, wills, advance health care directives, and powers of attorney
  • Evaluate client competency to make changes to estate planning and take steps to protect clients from undue influence
  • Advise trustees on trust administration matters and accounting
  • Prepare petitions, accountings, and other probate court filings
  • Represent trustees, executors, personal representatives, beneficiaries, creditors, and other interested parties in court
  • Stay informed on changes in law applicable to estate planning and advise clients accordingly
  • Research, evaluate, and resolve complex legal matters
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and generate business
  • Oversee administrative tasks including timekeeping and invoice approval
  • Assign and supervise the work of other attorneys and staff

Requirements:

  • Must hold a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Must be licensed to practice law in the state or willing to obtain license
  • At least one year of experience in the legal field, specifically in estate planning, probate, and trust and estate administration
  • Proficient in probate litigation and probate law
  • Experience in tax law, specifically fiduciary, trust and estate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research and report-writing skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Must maintain confidentiality and act in the best interest of clients at all times
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, staff, and other attorneys
  • Proficiency in using legal research software and other computer technology to organize and manage client files
