Job Description:
Our client is seeking a passionate and dedicated First Nations Engagement Officer to join their team. This role is vital for fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal communities and ensuring that their perspectives and concerns are thoroughly integrated into operations and projects. The successful candidate will monitor engagement activities, provide oversight during project delivery, and act as the primary liaison between the organisation and local Aboriginal stakeholders.
Job Responsibility:
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure activities comply with the Project Deed’s stakeholder and communication requirements, including developing and reviewing engagement strategies throughout various project stages
  • Community Integration: Serve as the approval entity for Community Engagement Team, ensuring they are effectively resourced to meet community engagement obligations
  • Management Plans: Review and approve Communication and Engagement Management Plans, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with community needs
  • Community Oversight: Oversee the delivery phase, ensuring it adheres to agreed engagement strategies while addressing community concerns effectively
  • Field Surveillance: Conduct field surveillance and ensure engagement requirements are met in accordance with best practice frameworks and processes
  • Media and Government Relations: Respond to media and government communication requests, facilitate the development of internal materials, and develop briefing notes, fact sheets, and communiques
  • Risk Management: Monitor and manage risks related to community engagement, addressing issues proactively to ensure smooth project execution
  • Social Licence: Maintain and develop social licence with First Nations communities, ensuring project activities align with community interests and promote positive outcomes
  • Initiative Coordination: Act as a single point of contact for key stakeholders, coordinating efforts with local councils, third parties, and interfacing projects
  • Community Benefit Programs: Manage community benefit programs, including incentives for Aboriginal businesses and ongoing communication with local Aboriginal Land Councils
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in community engagement, particularly with First Nations or Aboriginal communities
  • Strong understanding of cultural protocols and the unique needs and interests of Aboriginal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain relationships
  • Ability to develop and implement effective engagement strategies aligned with community interests and project objectives
  • Experience in risk management, community benefit realisation, and relevant project governance
  • A degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, community development, indigenous studies) is preferred
