Job Description:

The Grant Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial aspects of grants, including tracking, reporting, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies. This position will be responsible for overseeing the full grant life cycle, from pre-award to post-award, and will work closely with various departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions related to grants.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee the accounting functions for all grants, ensuring proper allocation of expenses according to grant guidelines and restrictions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private grant regulations, including adherence to financial reporting requirements and policies
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial reports on grant activities, including budget vs. actual analyses and variance reports
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries related to grants
  • Perform monthly and annual reconciliations of grant accounts
  • Collaborate with departments and principal investigators to assist with grant proposals, including budgeting, financial planning, and ensuring proposals meet financial compliance standards
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and responding to audit inquiries regarding grant transactions
  • Utilize accounting software and grant management systems to track, report, and analyze grant activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Grant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and private grant regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting software
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines

Nice to have:

  • Experience in non-profit or educational fund accounting
  • Familiarity with Banner, Cognos, or similar financial systems
  • Knowledge of both pre-award and post-award grant processes
  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning for grant projects
