Job Description:

We are looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our newly opened SEMH primary school in Market Bosworth. With just 16 students currently (expanding to 24 by year-end), this is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in a small, supportive setting. You will support teaching and learning, lead small group interventions, and manage challenging behaviours. A rewarding role for someone experienced in working with SEMH pupils.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support teaching and learning across the school, working closely with the class teacher
  • Lead small group interventions and provide 1:1 support for students with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs
  • Manage and de-escalate extremely challenging behaviours, using positive handling techniques where required
  • Contribute to a nurturing and structured learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
  • Provide individual and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and structured lessons
  • Help students develop positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation
  • Use positive handling techniques to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with SEMH pupils and managing challenging behaviour
  • Positive Handling training or experience in de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, CPI)
  • Resilience, patience, and a commitment to supporting vulnerable students
  • HLTA qualification or extensive TA experience with additional responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, patient approach
  • A team player who is eager to learn and grow in an SEMH setting
