Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Insurance Platform CTO. This position involves leading engineering teams, implementing strategies, managing budgets, influencing stakeholders, building future-proof solutions, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Job Responsibility:

  • Define, develop and practically implement state-of-the-art strategies to solving complex and ambiguous problems using modern set of technology platforms across multiple countries
  • Build a great engineering team that delivers excellent results to difficult problems across multiple functions and geographies
  • Build solution architecture and design capabilities within the global engineering team as a key skill/capability
  • Provide thought leadership for all resources through Senior Managers across multiple geographies
  • Design and develop optimal/future-proof solutions whilst providing reliable cost and effort estimations to solve complex and ambiguous problems using modern set of technology platforms, delivery disciplines and DevOps mindset
  • Deliver against a strategic operating plan (such as Core Capabilities) that ensures resources (capability, people and funding) deliver improvements in current customer journeys and new features to increase customer experience
  • Global implementation and coordination of Insurance initiatives, working with global and markets business, service line leaders, technology function leaders to provide global capabilities and services that is also relevant to the local market needs/problem statements
  • Manage the annual budget spread between designing and developing new services (Change The Bank) as well as managing and supporting existing services (Run the Bank)
  • Manage an effective working relationship with partners and third party vendors to ensure successful delivery and efficient cost management
  • Create and maintain strong and trusted working relationship outside of Insurance business in other WPB business lines (GPBW, RBS, EP) and the broader HSBC group
  • Represent Insurance in WPB channel and digital for all technology and business executive forums
  • Optimise resources globally to create an integrated team leveraging the capabilities of staff in all locations
  • Manage the efforts of global engineering teams including all aspects of data processing design, development, acquisition, testing, conversion and production support
  • Institute global platforms, promote technology sharing and leverage operating environments to achieve greater cost efficiency
  • Lead and develop a high performing global team through effective communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices
  • Build a pipeline of engineering talent
  • Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand and values
  • Ensure technology goals are identified, communicated, documented, agreed and delivered in the most effective manner (cost, timeframe and capabilities) possible through to the completion of the successful deployment
  • Ensure solution and platform design are practical, scalable and future-proof whilst embedding the necessary risks, controls and quality automation checks
  • Identifying key risks, issues and interdependencies and provide appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Supporting audit / independent programme assessments as required
  • Ensure HSBC is not put at any operational or reputational risk

Requirements:

  • Outstanding Technology leader who is passionate about leveraging technology to drive business outcomes
  • Exceptional Engineering thought leader who is still hands-on and experienced at balancing practicalities with best-in-class engineering approaches and solutions
  • Experienced in managing programs, projects and a variety of delivery / assurance roles across a number of markets/locations and cultures
  • Strong track record of leading high-performing technology engineering teams within a digital economy within a retail / consumer industry, preferably at scale and across global markets
  • Strong track record in successful delivery of projects that meet/exceed customer needs in a large, complex organizations
  • Built and manage commercially viable digital platforms, services and capabilities
  • Ability to lead and influence global teams
  • Strong understanding of operational effectiveness
  • Experienced at managing operational functions and leading process reengineering and efficiency exercises
  • Strong ability to balance risks vs. rewards and maximizing the cost effectiveness and profitability for the business
  • Possess the following competencies - strong people leadership, teamwork, is data and facts driven, sound judgment and decision making, effective communication skills
  • Respectful of different cultures, working with colleagues from across all 5 regions (North America, LATAM, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe)
  • Language knowledge of Spanish and French
