Job Description:

The Lead Counsel 1 (Litigation) is an intermediate level position responsible for serving as a legal advisor to business stakeholders, functional partners, and the Legal Management Committee by providing counsel and thought leadership on all aspects of legal matters related to Litigation. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, direction, and guidance across Litigation and Citi Businesses and Functions.

Job Responsibility:

Provide legal advice by defending issuers, underwriters, investment advisors, officers, and directors in anti-trust litigation, regulatory investigations, and class actions
Advise stakeholders on litigation issues
Collect and process documents required for internal or external investigations, litigation, or regulatory actions
Collaborate to manage litigation through preventative and proactive legal advice
Manage and coordinate the provision of external legal services
Monitor management of legal issues and transactions
Proactively identify, evaluate, and contribute to the appropriate management of legal, regulatory, and reputational risk
Collaborate on planning and development initiatives
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made

Requirements:

5-8 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services
Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
Comprehensive knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices
Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
Effective communication and negotiation skills
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
Bar license in good standing to practice law
Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
Fluent English
