The purpose of a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health is to support primary care providers with clinical documentation, enabling them to focus on providing exceptional patient care. This role includes real-time documentation, preparation of After Visit Summaries, review of medical records, and administrative support for providers and care teams. Scribes are also trained in clinical workflows, value-based medicine, and coding practices, making this an excellent opportunity for pre-med individuals or those interested in health-related careers.
Job Responsibility:
Documenting patient encounters in real time
Joining the provider in the exam room to observe patient visits
Preparing After Visit Summaries
Consulting with the provider to ensure accurate and specific documentation
Requesting and reviewing medical records
Supporting daily huddles and clinical documentation reviews
Placing orders and referrals
Addressing tasks
Supporting the care team with clinical documentation-related responsibilities.
Requirements:
Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications, either from a pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience
Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering
Prior scribe or transcription experience
Advanced listening and communication skills
Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve
Ability to adapt to new workflows and to quickly learn new concepts and skills
Ability to type 70+ words per minute
Ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care, including adapting to the provider's working style
Excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person in our clinics
Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role
Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours
Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA
US work authorization.
