Job Description:

The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the payroll system, processes, and corporate policies are compliant. This role involves managing and directing vendors, audits, and process improvements for payroll-related activities. The Payroll Accountant will implement process improvements and cost optimization initiatives through data analytics, benchmarking, and applying best practices. In addition, the role requires cross-functional communication and coordination to resolve complex payroll issues with various departments, managers, employees, auditors, and outside agencies. The Payroll Accountant will also provide training and mentorship to payroll specialists.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure payroll system, processes, and policies are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Manage and direct vendors and audits related to payroll activities
  • Implement process improvements and cost optimization strategies
  • Utilize data analytics to drive payroll efficiencies and cost-saving measures
  • Coordinate with other departments, managers, employees, auditors, and outside agencies to solve complex payroll issues
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to payroll specialists
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of payroll software and HRIS systems

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 10+ years of relevant payroll experience
  • Proven experience in payroll administration, including complex calculations and analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor laws, with experience in ensuring compliance
  • Experience with Social Security Administration (SSA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and multiple state and local taxation rules
  • Proficiency in advanced payroll software, HRIS systems, and data analysis tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and manipulate large payroll datasets
  • Experience interacting with internal and external auditors
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in payroll calculations and data entry
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies and continuous improvement strategies
  • Ability to adapt to changing payroll regulations and technologies

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional certification in payroll administration (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, Fundamental Payroll Certification)
  • Experience with SAP, Workday, and AD
  • Experience in leading or mentoring payroll teams
