Job Description:

Robert Half is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented senior accountant to join our team on a contract basis, supporting one of our undisclosed nonprofit clients. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional with a strong background in nonprofit financial management, fund accounting, and compliance. Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB 116 & 117)
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Analyze and maintain accurate reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Prepare and review grant-related financial reports to ensure compliance with donor and grantor requirements
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely transactions
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis to support leadership decision-making
  • Lead audit preparation efforts, including gathering financial documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, including Form 990 tax filings
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff, assisting with training and professional development

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the nonprofit sector
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas) and nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting)
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, grant management, and financial statement preparation
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with leadership, program managers, and external auditors
