Robert Half is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented senior accountant to join our team on a contract basis, supporting one of our undisclosed nonprofit clients. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional with a strong background in nonprofit financial management, fund accounting, and compliance. Job Responsibility:
Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB 116 & 117)
Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
Analyze and maintain accurate reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds
Prepare and review grant-related financial reports to ensure compliance with donor and grantor requirements
Monitor and manage cash flow, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely transactions
Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis to support leadership decision-making
Lead audit preparation efforts, including gathering financial documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, including Form 990 tax filings
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff, assisting with training and professional development
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
CPA or CMA preferred
Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the nonprofit sector
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas) and nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting)
Deep knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, grant management, and financial statement preparation
Excellent analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with leadership, program managers, and external auditors
