Job Description:

Are you an experienced criminal lawyer looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real difference? The role involves providing culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients while fostering a positive team environment. The position entails significant court appearances, mentoring, stakeholder management, and travel throughout Tasmania.

Job Responsibility:

Provide culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients in a broad range of matters
Mentor and supervise staff, including junior lawyers
Foster a positive team environment
Build effective stakeholder relationships.

Requirements:

Significant experience in criminal practice and procedure, with substantial experience in appearance work in the Magistrates Court and experience in the Supreme Court
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising staff, including junior lawyers
The ability to work collaboratively with others and foster a positive team environment
An understanding of the social issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to a wide variety of people
Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills, demonstrating a history of maintaining positive and effective partnerships
You must be a Registered Legal Practitioner in Tasmania or meet the eligibility requirements to become one
The selected candidate will undergo a National Police Check and must apply for a Working with Vulnerable Persons registration
Possession of a valid driver’s license is essential, as the role entails travel throughout Tasmania.
