We are seeking a Senior EHS Engineer to drive Health & Safety initiatives across a busy manufacturing site. You will work alongside the senior leadership team and be the go-to expert for all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities and queries, ensuring compliance and fostering a strong safety culture. Job Responsibility:
Work closely with management to develop and enforce health and safety policies
Create a safety vision for the plant and support the development of a safety strategy aligned with corporate and business objectives
Lead a small team focused primarily on Health & Safety, setting clear objectives and providing direction, support, and motivation
Plan, design, and implement new or modified initiatives to improve the safety culture of the Plymouth plant
Develop team and personal skills, identify training needs, and provide coaching, including delivering safety training programs
Assess safety procedures across various work environments, including contractor management, ensuring adherence to industry and corporate standards
Utilise safety performance data to identify areas of concern and influence improvements
Design and implement safety systems and processes to minimise job-related injury risks, working towards a zero-harm goal
Conduct safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
Investigate accidents and incidents, identifying causes and preventative measures
Report unsafe occurrences and incidents internally and to relevant regulatory bodies as required
Recommend and implement safety features and protective equipment for machinery and facilities
Stay updated on best practices, strategies, and legislation regarding workplace safety
Support the provision of requested information for Employer's Liability or Public Liability claims
Assist in risk assessments to safeguard associate's safety and well-being
Participate in Manufacturing Unit meetings, providing functional data, input, and advice
Analyse Environmental & Safety Opportunities (ESO) and incident data to identify areas for improvement
Prepare and maintain safety procedures covering manufacturing equipment, chemical handling, workplace transport, manual handling, and contractor management
Assist in the introduction of new machinery, processes, and equipment, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated.
Requirements:
Degree (BSc or BEng) in a Health & Safety discipline
NEBOSH, IOSH, NVQ H&S qualification or equivalent experience is essential
EHS experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of legal compliance requirements
Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, including hazard identification and risk mitigation
Ideally a trained Auditor
Recognised Engineering or Project Management qualification is desirable
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and make tough decisions
Strong IT skills and ability to adapt to new software
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
