Job Description:

As a Senior Financial Analyst in the Accounting Policy & Research team, you will play a key role in analyzing complex financial accounting issues and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory accounting principles. You will conduct accounting research, provide technical guidance, and support external financial reporting. This role involves collaboration with senior leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional teams to drive technical accounting initiatives and improve financial reporting processes.

Job Responsibility:

  • Research and implement new accounting pronouncements impacting financial statement presentation and disclosures
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and support business transactions with proper GAAP interpretations
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and whitepapers to document financial conclusions
  • Assist with compliance initiatives related to GAAP and regulatory accounting
  • Identify and drive process improvements in financial accounting and reporting
  • Support the preparation of SEC filings, including Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, and Form 11-K
  • Assist with quarterly and annual regulatory filings to the FERC and MPSC
  • Collaborate with external auditors on accounting and reporting matters
  • Draft financial statements and footnotes for public and regulatory filings

Requirements:

  • CPA required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in auditing, financial accounting, and/or financial reporting
  • Strong technical accounting skills, with expertise in GAAP and SEC reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to senior and executive leadership

Nice to have:

  • MBA
  • Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm preferred)
  • Experience in financial reporting, accounting policy, or research
  • Familiarity with SAP and technical accounting topics such as ASC 815 (derivatives) and ASC 810 (consolidations/acquisitions)
  • Background in process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives
