Job Description:

As the Staff Accountant, you will prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation. You will also be responsible for various aspects of internal reporting throughout the monthly close. You will assist in developing and implementing accounting policies. In addition, you will review schedules for the reporting processes, take part in compliance, and interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits.

Job Responsibility:

  • Analyze accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department and according to GAAP, makes corrections as needed and provides guidance to staff
  • Produce and analyze financial reports to internal stakeholders and provide explanation and guidance on meeting program financial objectives
  • Produce financial reports to program funders
  • Designated day to day go to for financial expertise for specified departments, providing guidance and training on financial matters, and discusses goals and accuracy of program financials
  • Assist with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll records to ensure accuracy
  • Monthly and annual closing process
  • Assists in coordination of the annual budget process for designated departments
  • Assist with special projects and audits as needed
  • Support Finance team in reviewing work products, for example accounts payable and journal entries, and standing in as back-up for team responsibilities as needed
  • Collaborate on projects, workflow assessments and efficiency improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within the healthcare, hospital or social assistance industries
  • Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Experience with bank reconciliations and maintaining the general ledger
  • Ability to prepare and post journal entries accurately
  • Experience in month-end close processes and procedures
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving accounting issues
  • Adherence to ethical standards and compliance with laws and regulations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Nice to have:
