Job Description:

As a Staff Rails Developer at 1Password, you'll define technical roadmaps, lead architectural decisions, and enhance endpoint security. You'll design scalable data solutions, develop APIs, and mentor engineers. Collaborating in a remote-first environment, you'll push user experience boundaries and leave a lasting impact on digital security.

Job Responsibility:

Own the design and implementation of core systems, influencing project success and course correcting as necessary, to ensure scalability and alignment with 1Password’s broader technical goals
Drive the development of APIs, authentication systems, and customer-facing UI, ensuring seamless integration with other 1Password services
Implement enhancements using modern Rails features like Hotwire, Stimulus, and Turbo to improve the reactivity of web applications
Solve complex technical problems both directly and through others
Serve as a technical leader and mentor across the organization, setting engineering best practices, guiding architectural decisions, and fostering a culture of innovation
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, influencing decisions that impact company-wide initiatives and unifying approach to security, performance, and user experience
Collaborate with product, design, and security leaders on cross-functional projects
Participate in code reviews
Rotate through 'on-call' responsibilities to help review PRs, assist other engineers, and provide technical support

Requirements:

7+ years of experience building and scaling complex SaaS platforms with Ruby on Rails, with a proven track record of leading technical initiatives and delivering impactful results
Deep expertise in database architecture and optimization, with the ability to design and implement scalable data solutions that meet the demands of a growing global user base
Strong communicator, who can convey technical details clearly, both in documentation and when interacting with customers or less technical colleagues
Experience building and scaling applications, particularly with a focus on performance and reliability
Drive projects to successful completion, ensuring they meet quality standards, deadlines, and deliverables
Lead and support senior engineers through solving some of the hardest problems at 1Password
Focus on customer needs to push the boundaries of user experience that 1Password has become known for

Nice to have:

An advocate for modern Rails practices and a thought leader in the ecosystem, contributing to open-source projects, speaking at conferences, or publishing insights that advance the field
A background in security or IT is beneficial, and you enjoy simplifying complex technical concepts for end-users
Experience working in a remote-first company or distributed teams
