Comprehensive management of indirect tax matters, such as Sales & Use and Occupancy Tax, within the hospitality industry. The role involves handling tax compliance, tax accounting, and project-oriented tasks, as well as research and planning. Requires collaboration with the finance team and adherence to established accounting protocols.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee indirect tax filings provisions for all properties, including all work papers and schedules
Collaborate with various departments and individuals to ensure accurate taxability of taxable/non-taxable revenue
Identify and address tax discrepancies in cooperation with other departments and individuals
Keep up-to-date tax exemption documentation
Conduct indirect tax audits on behalf of hotel ownership
Facilitate the transition of tax responsibilities when management companies change
Develop and maintain excel reconciliations, tracking sheets, etc., to enable accurate and timely filings
Supervise ACH and check requests for tax payments while reconciling the balance sheet tax liability accounts
Post and review payment journal entries
Conduct monthly audits on selected properties to ensure compliance in reporting exemptions
Verify the accuracy of the monthly, quarterly, annual tax returns
Support property transitions and the setup in internal systems
Uphold safe work habits to ensure safety
Requirements:
Proven experience in a similar role such as Tax Director or Manager - Corporate
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Indirect Tax
Proficiency in Tax - Sales & Use
Familiarity with Tax - Property
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to stay updated with changing tax laws and regulations
Proficient with tax software and other related IT tools
Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
Master's degree or CPA certification preferred
Proven track record of successfully handling audits and tax disputes
Demonstrable experience in strategic tax planning and risk management
High ethical standards and professionalism, with a commitment to confidentiality
