Robert Half is seeking a skilled attorney to provide critical legal support to a county in Colorado. The role involves providing legal counsel, conducting research, preparing cases, and collaborating with stakeholders. Ideal candidates are experienced in government or public agency legal work.
Job Responsibility:
Perform in-depth legal research and draft detailed memoranda on complex legal topics for internal county use
Research and draft legislation impacting county operations or policies
Prepare cases for court proceedings, which may include interviewing clients, preparing witnesses, and developing case strategies
Review and guide responses to state open records and open meeting laws, including reviewing documents for confidentiality and appropriate redactions
Provide legal counsel and interpretations of rulings, laws, and regulations to county officials, department heads, and staff
Maintain effective communication with the County Attorney and other stakeholders to identify risks or emerging legal issues
Conduct legal research and analysis on liability issues tied to law enforcement practices, provide compliance advice to the Sheriff’s Office, and assist with day-to-day legal needs
Collaborate with outside counsel on litigation involving the Sheriff’s Office, offering research and discovery support
Draft and review legal documents, including policies, contracts, letters, and proposed legislation
Oversee responses to legal requests, including subpoenas, open records inquiries, and criminal justice record requests, ensuring compliance with applicable laws
Provide support for court proceedings, including preparation of evidence, drafting court materials, and assisting attorneys
Monitor and evaluate legislative and legal developments to assess impacts on operations.
Requirements:
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree required
Active admission and good standing with the Colorado Bar
Minimum of 3 years practicing law, preferably in government, public agencies, or with a focus on civil or criminal legal issues
Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts is a plus
Proficient in legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis
Strong technical skills with programs like Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic court filing systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to explain complex legal concepts
Attention to detail and ability to manage a diverse range of legal tasks effectively.
